Intro To My New Book

I'm excited to announce that I'll be publishing my next book in 2019 that focuses on Finding Health Not Dis-Ease As You Age. The conventional medical approach to health is disease management. After reading this book, you will have a renewed sense of what health should look like, and how living with dis-ease will be a thing of the past. I wanted to share with you this personal note I wrote that will be included at the beginning of the book, to help the reader understand the book's message. I believe we all can benefit from this information, and want to thank you for all your support this past year. I'm looking forward to reconnecting again in 2019, with more online programs and individual coaching sessions. One specific group coaching program will correlate with the information presented in my book. You will have access to all of my research and education and feel empowered to take control of your health and mental well-being, regardless of what is happening outside of your control.

I hope you enjoy!

Note From The Author

I set out to write a book that targets those who are aging into their 50’s 60’s, and beyond because we are living with an epidemic of chronic illness and disease. Seventy-five percent of people over 65 are on various medications, and most of these medications aren’t necessary if we understand why our symptoms are there and how we can get to the root of our health issue. Sometimes it is as simple as cleaning up our diet, that can dramatically change our health. Those of us with aging parents are watching them live out their lives, tethered to multiple medications, and still living a poor quality life. Their generation never questioned the current healthcare model that focuses only on managing symptoms with medications, and does not look to the underlying root cause of why their symptoms are there in the first place. Their generation wasn’t told that the foods you eat have a direct effect on your health.

Don’t Fear Your Genes

This book’s purpose is to let you know that disease and illness do not have to be your fate, even if you’re thinking genetics. I’m a breast cancer survivor, and my mom had breast cancer. I tested for the BRCA1 gene mutation associated with breast cancer, after going through all of my cancer treatments. I found out that I did not carry the BRACA1 gene mutation. The truth is only 5% of cancer is due to genetics. That mean’s 95% of cancer is caused by lifestyle. My cancer wasn’t because my mother had breast cancer. I was under a tremendous amount of chronic stress at the time, and I ate poorly. It’s not your genes, but the expression of your genes that determine your health.

You must understand that the power is in your hands to choose health, not disease. Your environment, your lifestyle, and your thoughts play a major role in your health. With the study of Epigenetics, our lifestyle choices strongly influence our gene expression. This means you have the power to turn on or turn off certain genes based on what foods you eat, managing stress, and your perception of life. This is good news because even if your parents had a certain health issue, you could alter your genetic code, by making the right lifestyle choices.

Don’t Fear Aging

After reading this book, you’ll understand that the third stage of your life can be lived with vitality. You’ll want to have the energy and strength to do the things that make you feel alive and well. Don’t fear aging. The old school way of thinking is that when you get older, you get sick and then you either wait it out in a nursing home or if you’re too sick to live a quality life, you die. This does not have to be your fate. When you start to question your old belief system and look into a more functional medicine approach towards your health, you’ll feel empowered to understand you have it within you to find health and not disease as you age.

Listen To Your Instincts

Listening to your inner doctor is probably the most underutilized healing center available to you. If a medical practitioner is telling you something that doesn’t resonate with you, listen to that resistance, and explore it. Don’t let a doctor tell you it may be (fill in the blanks) and then wear that label whether you believe it or not. That is called the “Nocebo Effect.” The person with the white coat gives you a diagnosis, you take on that diagnosis and believe it to be true, without investigating it further. This approach will leave you feeling powerless. This is where research is so important. Get educated on your symptoms and what may be causing them. Seek out a functional medicine practitioner who can offer you sound advice on looking to the root cause of your health issue, and take steps to reverse your symptoms or at the very least, help alleviate them.

A good example of this is when I go to my annual physical, I’m told to get a flu shot. I know this is a personal issue, but I always refuse. Most flu shots have mercury in them, and I question why I would subject my body to a toxic substance like mercury if I don’t have to? My point is, I don’t subscribe to the fear-based healthcare model, and understand as long as I’m doing the right things, I have a better chance of warding off the flu because I have a healthy immune system. I seek out my inner doctor for advice.

Don’t Subscribe To “It’s All Downhill From Here” Attitude

As a society, we are told as we age, life gets harder, our health declines, and we can’t do the things we used to do. We are long overdue for a change in that broken belief system. We need to make a paradigm shift away from aging equals disease, to aging equals health, joy, and abundance. Growing older takes on a whole new meaning when we approach life with curiosity and enthusiasm. Instead of looking to retire, and spend the last years of your life in poor health, you can have a renewed attitude that will help you flourish physically, emotionally and spiritually. We have put our time in and have learned a tremendous amount of life lessons. Now, we stand in our power and reject our culture’s negative messages about growing older and make a conscious effort to live a life full of meaning, purpose, and joy.

Now you’re at a crossroads, where you get to decide what your life will look like in the years to come. Are you going to grow older with a renewed sense of vitality or grow older with disease and medications? The choice is yours.

This is your new chapter. I’m very excited for you! Read on!
